Well, here goes…. Finally introducing myself!

I guess I can’t say long time lurker first time poster, because I have posted a few things. But, I have failed to introduce myself to the forum, so here goes. I’m an Electrical lineman, and a Firefighter, from West Michigan. Hence the screen name, Fireline. I have always loved all things outdoors, but as I get older, and my lines of work continue to take tolls from my body, I have found it progressively more difficult to sleep on the ground. My family and I were backpacking at Nordhouse Dunes, when this guy shows up, and asked if he could camp by us. I said “sure but there is a much nicer spot just up the hill with a better clearing. He proceeded to tell me that he didn’t need a clearing, just four trees (his wife was somewhere behind him still hiking, he wanted to make sure they got a good spot so he hiked much faster than she did) I thought who’s this guy. He then hung his dueling WBBB with rain tarps. I knew nothing about hammock camping at the time but was immediately interested, as he answered any and all questions that I had. So it began. I don’t know who this guy was but he was from the Chicago area, and I have him to thank for this chaos that has since been a part of my life. Well, it has been a DIY journey ever since. I wanted the WBBB style so I found plans on this forum.

The plans worked quite well, although I’ve found the bug mesh to be too tight. I will probably remove it and custom fit it.

I then made a tarp I thought it might be the only one I have for a while so I went big, winter tarp plans from DIY Gear Supply.

I have had a blast making it, and finally took the rig out on it's maiden voyage to the UP this past week. All in all I have enjoyed jumping in head first (going DIY) and have learned a lot….. And turned some heads, “YOU sewed that” lol

Anyway, this is me….hello! Here are some pictures of my Rig.

Now that's inspirational! Nice job. How much time would you estimate you put into constructing the tarp and hammock?

Lol.... It's hard to say, as I didn't exactly stay on the project from start to finish. My guess would be 8-10 hours on each project individually. But it could be more. I might be subconsciously justifying my time investment.

    Nice! That's great work!

And I really like your "logo" badge on the hammock - looks like you're ready to go into business . . .

Brother, the bug bit hard. So far I'm still on the feel good phase. As far as the fire department goes, it's my pleasure. I'm coming up on twenty years, and I must admit, I'm getting a bit burned out. But I think I will stick it out. Lol. Especially when you couple it with my other job, either one could get me out of bed and all hours of the night. But, the work is fun on both ends and rewarding. Thanks!
