I am aiming for about 3.5" of loft (avg) in the underquilt I am making, and I would like to hear opinions on the best way to attach the edges of the outer and inner layers.
For a thinner hammock, I would immediately roll-hem the two together, but on an UQ this thick, is a "side" strip around the perimeter necessary, or will 3" extra hem-allowance on the flat pattern edge do the trick? Also, since the baffles make it impossible to turn the unfilled bag inside out (I think ) what is the preferred way of getting flat and clean seam on the exterior?
My other question is in regards to my suspension/attachment setup. My plan was to run shock cord up the sides of the UQ to pull it up against me, so would channels or loops be the best way to do this? Loops are replaceable, but channels are cleaner; loops are more fragile, but channels bunch/bind easily. Seems either would work equally well if attached right, as well. Is Impetus 1.0 (or Momentum etc.) strong and abrasion-resistant enough to be sewn into a channel or loops for shock cord?
