What length of Shock Cord for DIY ENO DN UQ?

Good morning. I am slapping together a Poncho Liner UQ (PLUQ) for a friend who uses an ENO Double Nest hammock. However, I do not know how long to make the shock cord for attaching the PLUQ to the hammock. I'm planning on running shock cord along both sides of the quilt so the quilt can slide back and forth and attaching to the hammock with small carabiners.

Can anyone let me know how long to make the shock cord?

Stormcrow suggests that if shockcord is too long, just make an overhand knot in it to shorten it. So until you get it dialed in, start out with what seems reasonably long (6 ft perhaps) and tie off as necessary to shorten.

I have done this, and on those occasions when I need a short piece of shock cord I know where to go. I have made several IX underquilts using this approach and have found it to be easily adjustable.

On the 4 UQ I have done I run 1 length of cordage all the way around with extra and put both ends through a cord lock and adjust accordingly for the hammocks I use, either way works. Always nice to have some adjustability

Yup that works too. Have done it both ways. Thanks for pointing that out.

I just put shock cord on my PLUQ for my ENO DBL. I used 10' on each side, tied a knot on the end, used a prussic knot on each side of the cord and use a carbineer attached to a triangle thingy at the ends. That way I can adjust the PLUQ to fit which ever hammock I want to use it on.

    Brilliant!

And, thanks to everyone who chimed in. I'll buy plenty of extra cord and whittle it down from there. I want to make it easy on adjusting for my friend since she has never used an UQ before. In fact, she wasn't using a pad, either. She was wondering why her sleeping bag alone wasn't keeping her warm at night!

I finished off my PLUQ with a bit of velco on both ends. I have a WalMart Blue pad I can put into it to increase my insulation if needed. I cut the pad to fit into the UQ and kept the bottom piece as a footpad for when it is pretty cold. Last year I took that set up down to 30F with a 20F sleeping bag as a TQ.

I now have some JRB down goodness that will take me to 20F and a nice DIY down TQ. Can you see my smile ???

First figure the stretch of your cord then you can figure how much you need. You want the inner part to stay tight against the hammock. The cord I used stretches at least double.

I use 4’ sections tied to a 4’ loop of zing it on each end. This way the UQ is tight, you don’t have to keep adjusting it, and I can slide it to position it from in the hammock if needed.
