    First Backpacking Trip

My wife and I went on our first ever (for both of us) backpacking trip last week. We did the West Rim Trail of the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. We originally set out with intention of taking our time, and doing it in 3.5 days. However, we kept a better pace than we expected, and finished in 2.5.

We both slept in GT SBPs with WB Edge tarps. We made our own IX quilts. I also made the whoopies, ridgelines, guylines, etc. My wife ran the sewing machine for the quilts and tree straps.

The views were amazing, and I got a lot of great pictures with my phone. We got to see a bald eagle and a black bear, as well as some newts, garter snakes, toads, chipmunks, deer, and probably some other critters I'm forgetting.

I would definitely recommend the trail to anyone! We got a trail guide and map from Pine Creek Outfitters, which were excellent.

We'll be doing more backpacking in the future, and have already upgraded to Osprey packs.

Yeah, I saw your videos, they were very insightful. I also borrowed the .GPX files to use with my phone that had been posted in your thread. Those were VERY handy. Thanks!

Excellent trip. Great views. Not too shabby for a first time. You should be very proud. Nice work on those UQs as well. A+ all around.
