    Prussik Problem?

Has anyone has any problems with zing-it prussiks sliding? My prussiks use ~2.5 inch continuous loops, wrapped three times. The problem seems to be with the buried ends. They make the loop itself thicker, and that portion doesn't seem to want to grip the zing-it ridgeline as well. I have a Dutch hook that goes around the tree to a prussik, but I'm having trouble getting it to stay tight. Do I need a bigger continuous loop with smaller buries so there is more "usable" line in the loop?

    Thanks!

Hmmm, I have been using lash-it prussiks with no problem.

Either that or try more wraps or try using zline for the prussik. Smaller line grips better. You could also just tie a knot instead of using a continuous loop. That's what I have, zingit on zingit with 3 wraps and it grips too good, can be hard to adjust sometimes.

try to use the portion of the continuous loop that is single thickness (not the bury) as the section that is wrapped around the ridge line.
Also wrap id 4 or 5 wraps.

Yeah, I think that's where my problem is... My buries are simply too long, so almost 75% of the loop has a bury in it. And the loop is too small to do more than 3 wraps. I think I'll have to go back and make some new loops. No biggie. Thanks!

I've got too much Zing-It... I probably shouldn't buy any more line. If I weren't such a perfectionist (read: OCD), I might be able to convince myself to tie some knots, but the continuous loop is just to beautiful to me. I think my problem is my buries are too long, and my loops are too small. I think I need to go back and make some new loops with a larger diameter (to get more wraps) and shorter buries so that the wraps are more effective.

The other problem I have is that the dutch hooks are too small to hook onto a point with a bury, so I HAVE to have an unburied portion as the connection point.

for my tarp CRL, I use soft shackle prussiks made from zing-it and I also have soft shackle prussiks made from braided mason's line. I like the mason's line a little better.
I had to try several methods before I found one that I liked.

Love my soft shackle prusiks! As the line wears, the prusiks will grip better. I hasten the process by sliding the prusiks up and down.

I think this is the route I'm going to take, actually. I was using s-biners to connect the tarp to the continuous loop prussiks, but soft shackle prusiks make more sense. I'll still use dutch hooks and continuous loops prussiks for one end of each ridgeline, as well as the guylines, though. Just means I need to make about 10 new continuous loops. Let the blisters commence!

The deal with prussik's is that they work better when it's a smaller line wrapped around a larger one.

That, and zing-it is designed to be slippery.

I generally tie Klemheists instead, but prussiks do work... like those above, just use more wraps. . .

Somewhere I have a spool of 100# dyneema fishing line. Works great as a prussik loop on zing-it.
