    Cheater line Pro's and Con's

I've been looking for ways to improve my hammock with different suspensions and everything. The other day I came across a Pak-it-lite hammock with cheater line, which I thought was pretty awesome. It looks like such an easy way to set up a hammock, but I haven't seen any reviews or opinions about them. has anyone used a cheater line before? The pro's are obvious, but what about the con's?

What makes it easier? I can't find any info on what a cheater actually does, and am baffled on what benefit one gets from "glow in the dark."

Also interesting that Pak-It Lite hammocks weigh a ton.

I'm not sure about the glow in the dark, but the cheater line sets your toggles the same place everytime, so your hammock lays in the perfect spot every time. Even with a ridge line on my WBBB, I have to make adjustments so the ridgeline is not to tight. It seems like the cheater line eliminates all that. You just stretch your line from tree to tree and than attach the hammock. I don't know though. I've had a WBBB with stock webbing for two years, and that's the extent of my experience. That's why I'm looking for opinions.

I would like to know too - the documentation on the website is rather poor. I can't understand what the cheater line does.

I'm not sure either. It appears its a measuring tape to set your suspension length. It looks like the hammock end suspension is just a loop. You have to tie the webbing to the tree to adjust suspension length. It seems to me to be a structural ridgeline of sorts. Not sure how it is any better than a SRL, though.

If I recall, the cheater line is nothing more than a line that is that sets the optimum distance between the toggles when stretched "tight" between two trees. Once up, you attach your hammock to the toggles and then remove the line.

I was going to say it looks like a basic SRL. IF it gets removed after setup it is not even that good. In either case it will not simplify your setup as you will still need to fiddle to get it set right.
    YMMV

Here is a video on how the system works...Doesn't look that light nor convenient but that is a perspective thing. I dont see a benefit to the cheater line at all. I personally would rather use something adjustable like webbing buckles, Whoopies, or UCR suspension. This suspension does not allow for adjustment if something isn't quite right or when the suspension tightens down from load and creates sag. I guess its a preference thing but for me this system would be a step backward in the evolution of suspensions. But some may enjoy this setup. He has alot of good ideas in his design, but its just not for me..

PS: Park officals may not like the fact that he is tying rope around a tree rather than the 1" webbing that is required in most parks.

I think gray dog described it best. It's sets the optimal distance between the toggles, but it doesn't sound like anyone agrees that the system would work well. I'll take the experts advise and try something else. Thanks guys.
