Thanks for the report... Adding it to my to do list
I didn't get a chance to find out, but according to the Discover the Adirondacks series there is. Maybe I'll get back there in better weather to test it out.

    nice pics

I DO want to hit that area soon.....

ps you are having one HOT summer!
last year, and I will NEVER do this again: back to back to back 24,22 and 21 mile days in PA in 98 degree heat with humidity in the high 80's.
    Never again.

Nice trail... I tried to go car camping in late June to a nearby WMA and the bugs were terrible. I must of swallowed a few pounds of black flies and itched for a week cause of the mossy bites. It was no better after spraying heavily with deet so I left after two hours of fishing.

Best time to be there is probably September. Towards the end of the month the trees turn. Cool nights nice days. Other issue is it gets dark earlier. That means one can have a nice campfire before bed but might be making dinner in the dark,,, ;-)

I went backpacking in Five Ponds Wilderness during blackfly season once, and man did I learn my lesson. Now I don't set foot in the ADKs until September. lol I like going that week after Labor Day - fewer bugs, cooler temps, fewer people, and hunting season hasn't started yet. I'm heading up in mid-September again this year - most likely to the Moose River Plains Wild Forest.

I hiked the Carter Moriah Range one 90 degree weekend at the end of June and I too had the wonderful experience of upping my protein intake by inhaling swarms of black flies. Oh well, less to bite the next guy I guess.

Hitting either the West Canada Lakes or Five Ponds Wilderness the end of August. Should be good by then
