Re: A week at Scout Camp

Wasn't able to attend this year....sad times being a responsible parent.
A couple of years ago we went to the San Isabel Scout camp in Colorado. Very old school and traditional. Brought back fond memories of camps in the '70s. John Wayne Eagle Trail, very moving experience for the boys.
Camp is at 9000ft, very cool at night! Loved it.

I was there last week too. Hanging on Site 14. A great week. Several of our Scouts had those GT's to try by the end of the week.

Scout camp was Father's Day week and it was the second year of hanging all week. It was pure bliss.

The Trading Post had some cheap cotton hammocks that 3 of the boys bought. I helped them rig them up so as to not damage the trees, had one scout talk to me for a couple of hours on the ride home about hammock camping and found out the the Scoutmasters youngest son that went talked his mom into letting him hang an ENO in his bedroom.

And so my plan to take over the world has started, mumuhaha!

Well, make more hangers at least.

We were in site 12, talk about a place that is uphill both ways! They have a great program though. Three left to go on the ultimate zone trip. They all had a great time.

No excuse for a moderator - should have brought a Turtledog stand or some type of contraption... just kidding.

I had two of our boys sleep in hammocks that I brought in our scout camp last month, and had three during our overnight last week.

Just ordered some materials to make simple gathered end hammocks for them, so it will be fun to see all of them in the hammocks. One thing I have found, it that does cause the boys to be a bit more lazy with lounging around (if that is possible)

I am on my second year as the Medical Officer at Camp Falling Rock in Newark, OH and at least 5 out of 30 of the full time staff hang all summer, we are like the postal motto, neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night keeps these staffers from the blissful slumber of their hammocks.

We were at Firelands Scout Reservation in Wakeman, Ohio. We always go the same week in order to keep our premium campsite for the next year. This year, we only had about 10 Troops, it was Jambo week. This was the lightest camping year they have ever seen. We go back every year. The boys are looking at other places to go, but not for summer camp. We have had Troops from other councils and other states come to our camp in the past.

We are always looking for other places to check out and camp.

Excellent Idea on another thread. I think I will start one.
