Ridgeline: Zing it, Lash it, or Techline?

    Hi all,
I've made a few DIY Hammocks, using the 1.9 mm techline from Scott over at DIY Gear supply, but I'm considering changing it up and getting a spool of Zing it or Lash it from ReddenMarine.

    Techline:
    1.9mm Diameter 480lb break strength

    Zing it /Lash it:
    2.2mm Diameter 650 Break Strength

Other then this basic info, are there any major differences? Do they splice the same?

And does anyone have a good coupon code for Redden?

    Ding it /Lash it:
Never heard of Ding It...think you mean Zing it.

I use Zing It and Lash It, same thing only difference is color. Personally I would not use Zing It or Lash It as part of my hammock suspension, Amsteel is much stronger.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

If your hang angle is less than 30* then your SRL will become truly structural, that is, take up load and work to help lift your hammock. Therefore, in conventional set-ups you must find trees about the right distance apart and adjust the hang angle by the elevation of straps on the trees to achieve the ideal 30* angle, making the SLR taut but not tight. Being successful at that piece of field engineering means the SRL does not need to be strong but serves as a guide for finding the proper angle -- and you can hang stuff on it like UQ suspension and organizers, which don't weight that much. I've ordered material for hammocks for Christmas presents for my children. I will outfit them with SRLs made of Lash-it but include instructions (and warnings) for conventional 30* set-ups.

But if one uses an interrupted single line suspension or hangs at shallow angles the SRL bears load and must be the same strength as the rest of the suspension. It does not matter as much what hang angle one achieves with this unconventional method because the elements of the suspension bear whatever load is assumed relative to distance between the trees and a consistent strap elevation up the tree, within limits, of course.
