Does anyone have any info. on how to erect a simple post support for my hammock? I only have one good tree in my yard and need to erect a post like structure for the other end of my hammock. Several months ago, I viewed some interesting "treeless" support systems (possibly on this forum) but it was a long time ago and right now I'm clueless. I'd appreciate any information. Thanks.
Look up the Turtle Lady Stand, its made from bamboo, but many
people have modified it and used poles of sorts.
You could always dig a hole, and concrete in a 4x4 post. Them use the tree, and the post. However the only drawback, is you have a random post in your yard.
But it could be a conversation starter with the neighbors..

I'd use a 4x6" post set in the ground and leaning away from the tree at 60 degrees. There is no need to set it in concrete. Rather, spend a while tamping the backfill, especially on the side opposite the tree.
A 10' post would be long enough, 24-30" in the ground, depending on your soil. Since Maryland grows good corn I imagine the soil is sandy loam (probably rocky) and has good drainage. The more silt or clay you have the deeper it needs to be buried.

Yes, I looked at a few; turtledog etc. but I forgot to mention that I was looking for something a little more robust. That said, I like the 4x4 post in the ground idea! I actually thought about this but didn't know if you all thought it was doable.... My part of Maryland actually is very sandy so I'm thinking that a hand auger will probably do the trick although twisting on a 60 degree angle might be dicey. I think I'll go to Home Depot or Lowes and get a 10' post and do the deed. I've got a Hennessy Expedition Asym. Since I like to hang it sort of high (approx. 40" off the ground), I'll place the post approx. 20' away from the tree I've been using. I really appreciate this feedback and any other suggestions y'all might have. Thanks again and good hangen!
If you are burying a pressure treats post, dig the hole at least 30" deep, throw a little gravel on the bottom, drop the post in, throw in a bag if quikcrete, some water, fill, tamp.
You don't even have to add the water, moisture from the soil will set it eventually.
Tack a bird house on top, screw in an iron arm for hanging plants, hang a plant and you are good to go.

I'll use a 4x6 or 6x6 since I don't want to think about any breakage. Hope I can get these in 10' lengths. I appreciate all the feedback.
