Thinking of buying ENO

Hey everyone, how's it going? I have a post up in the general section but I thought I would post here. I am brand spanking new to hammock camping, I am a tent camper. I am thinking of pulling the trigger and would really like to buy the Clark NX250 but I don't want to come off that kind of cash in the beginning. I can get a whole setup from ENO for half that.

Is the ENO gear a good beginner set up? Durable? And are they comfortable? It looks like the hammock will be in my face when I am trying to sleep.

The ENO hammocks are comfortable and make a good hammock, I started off with one and still use it for lounging on the porch and sleep in it on the porch sometimes, like all hammocks there is a learning curve, as far as suspension goes I use the ENO Atlas Straps, stay away from the Slap Straps though, they stretch pretty bad from what I hear

Right now I am looking at buying a few things, they are:
-ENO Double Nest Deluxe Hammock
-Atlas Hammock Suspension System
-Dry Fly Rain Tarp
-Guardian Bug Net

Here is a stupid question. Where does the ridge line come from? Is that from the hammock or is that the line tied above the hammock for the tarp? Do I have to buy that line or does one come with it? Thanks.

ENO's do not come with a ridge line. A hammock ridge line can be added by tying one from each end of the hammock to hang things on it or to support a bug net. Another use for a hammock ridge line is to set the sag for how you like your hammock to hang each time (it takes a few times to find that perfect sweet spot). A Tarp ridge line is separate and tied on the trees to support the tarp.

ENO's are fine hammocks and I started out in one too but they are heavy and the Guardian bug net is very bulky and the zipper is vertical making it imposable to have it open to do things from your hammock without it being in the way (like fixing coffee from the hammock).

Take a look at the Warbonnet Traveler and Travel Sock (bug net). The net has a horizontal zipper that opens up wide and is much easier to enter & exit the hammock. Or you may want a Blackbird to have an integrated bug net and that saves you a little money and a lot of weight.

The dry fly is a very minimal tarp. You can find good tarps from many of our cottage venders that are lighter, give you better coverage and can be about the same in price.

Also look at Wilderness Logic's. Marty is a great fellow and his prices are affordable and the workmanship is excellent.

Another affordable vendor here is But-In-A-Sling.

I meant to add that all of the vendors I mentioned include suspension with their hammocks and you don't have to buy it separately like you do with the ENO setup. More money saved!

That is the hammock I use. I love it. Storage options, footbox, pullouts to keep the hammock nice and wide. LOVE IT

I have returned to my ENO time and time again after spending big $$ on all the other "popular" hammocks on this forum (although I'm enjoying my Dangerbird now). They are super comfy, easy to mod and fairly light weight. I would not considered ENO a "starter hammock" by any means. That being said I would not buy any other ENO product other than their hammock. Buy or make whoopee slings w/tree straps and pick up a sil tarp.

I have heard the atlas straps aren't bad. I have been thinking about picking them up since I have an REI gift card -- However I would agree with the rest. The bug net is heavy and bulky, and there are better tarps out there with better coverage, whether you do a starter tarp like a Kelty Noah, or a backpacking hex tarp. The ENO tarps are heavy and don't provide enough coverage.
