    Pre-stressing rope?

To my knowledge, 'elastic' as in elastic elongation stands for 'getting back in shape/lenght once the load is reduced'. If your rope doesn't do that, it went from elastic to plastic deformation, so yes the chemical structure is compromised. Will it have an effect on your security ? No idea. But I definitively would not do it on purpose.

Just roll it between your hands to make round again. Not that tough.

English Braids Dynamic line ( 8 strand SK75 hollow braid) starts out as 3mm diameter and then gets stretched until its 2mm and retains its 920kg rating.

It makes the line thinner and has outlasted Amsteel Blue by a good margin in use.

There's more to this than is obvious and stretching the braid obviously doesn't weaken this particular braid....

(its called Dynamic line but its a static marine racing braid, equivalent to lots of Samsons braids)
