My buddy P-tang and I wanted to do a quick jaunt in the woods. Since he is in Chattanooga and I am in Atlanta the Pinhoti was an ideal trail to meet up on. Easy to find, close to the highway (but not too close), and well marked.

Hey MM. Nice post. Great hike. Looks like fun.
Are you using a monopod? What kind? How do you like it?
Your table suspended from a single rope, how is it?
I am jealous of your Element stove with flyz grill.
What was that cooking on it? Chicken wrapped with bacon?
How do you like the Element?
I really enjoyed that MM03.
Especially the dance in the middle
Oh and the cold beers. Good idea. Did all 6 beers make it till PTang showed up?
I'm using a combo setup. A Woxom Sling Shot http://woxom.com/ and a Joby Gorilla Pod http://joby.com/gorillapod
The table works well. It's handy when there is alot of leaves and such and I am worried about kicking my stove over.
The element is sweet. That was a bacon wrapped fillet.
Thanks TallPaul. Kinda a little WaterMonkey style. All the beers did make it and were emensely enjoyed!

I found your video this morning, about 3 minutes before I had to go out, I had to wait a few hours to watch it – poor me. You put ice and all in that hole, talk about organized. The MTB getaway would be good, to visit, I’d have some fun there for sure. The ale and ice stash was a stroke of genius. That camp site looked pretty good. Thanks for the trip report!
MM03 any chance you could go into a slight bit more detail on that hanging table? I've never seen that before.
Also, what phone were you using with the slingshot? It looks like by default it's not quite made for an iPhone5 form factor as it covers part of the camera lens..
Great video btw, you're lucky you accessed a section of the Pinhoti that has a ton of water. THe section I've done in Alabama has pretty much no water.
Thanks BH5. I'm glad you enjoyed. MTBG would be a good fun visit for you, and is only a couple hours from the Atlanta Airport. P-Tang appreciated that 'stroke of genius' as well.
I am using an Iphone 5 in a Otterbox case. Sometimes the frame of the slingshot does get in the way, but it is easily adjusted up and out of the frame and still holds nicely with the otterbox case.
The section prior to this one was dry as a bone. We've had a wet year so even the intermittent streams were flowing on the section I hiked with P-tang.
I made sure to thoroughly investigate for reliable water sources and that section was the jackpot. I've heard the AL section is rather dry though.
Here is a boring video of the table. It is a sheet of aluminum with three holes drilled in it. I put 2 lengths of zing-it with locked brummells through the hole.
I then gather all the zing-it into a bunch and fashion a prusik around them. The prusik at the top is attached to a nacrobiner and it forms a prusik around a ridgeline.
That allows me to adjust height, level, and side-to-side. the bottom is on a prusik as well, which I stake down as an anchor point.
Are you worried about your table swinging?
Could swing be minimized with two ridgelines,
or even just lashing onto your hammock ridgeline?
You now have me thinking that two guy lines to
stakes would provide a stable cooking platform.
What is even best, it's not too low!
Most important question.......
How did you make those maps with water source
information and neat landmarks and such?
Is this a program or website or just a database
that you add to your own maps?
I normally stake down the bottom. It seems to work really well.
I've even been cooking on it with a much more narrow pot, bumped the line and everything stayed put, didn't even spill a drop of water.
I believe a 2nd line might act more as a trip wire.
In the video I couldn't stake down the bottom.
I do make maps for a living, but in this case I utilized Google Earth and placemarks downloaded from a website.
