I want to cut out my sleeping bag for decent weather hikes.
What do you sleep on without one? I am assuming a layer
between you and your pad. Or do you just lay on the hammock?
What is your minimal setup?

I just sleep om my pad.... Untill i make my Underquilt.
I've gone without a bag in several ways. I've slept without a cover or a pad in just my clothing - adding layers if the temp drops. No extra weight. I've used a sleeping bag liner - warm but awkward to negotiate as mine does not open lengthwise. If you can find one that does open, its a nice piece of gear to have for warm trips, hostels, or to increase the temp range of your bag. They weigh only a few ounces.
My current warm weather set up is using a Maasai blanket I picked up in Kenya. It is a very thin, lightweight blanket that can be used for many uses - warm layer, shade, sit pad, sleep gear, etc. I just lay on it when I climb in the hammock, and if it gets a little chilly, I pull a side up as as a cover. it weighs more than the liner, but less than a bag.
I've not taken the plunge into TQs and UQs yet - still a bag man.
It's an older model Sierra Designs Sandman, rated to 20deg, and I've slept comfortably in it, hanging, down to about 40deg or so, with no pad, wearing just my skivvies. I like being cool, though.
Bought a Sea-to-Summit sleeping bag liner last month to use during the summer and I'm still trying to find the sweet spot for hanging with it. I used no pad and actually got a bit chilly one night, and it was only 65deg. I figure adding a pad (just bought a Nemo Zor short from another forum member) or just a long-sleeve t-shirt would fix that scenario - hoping it does, anyway. The thing is so lightweight and small - I really don't want to pack a bag or quilts for 65deg nights.
Summer only - 60s and above nighttime temps. Anything lower the bag comes along.
I'm still using a bag, mainly because I'm too cheap to invest in a TQ. The same could be said about my UQ (or lack thereof) I usually either use a pad or something underneath.
My wife bought a 40 degree bag at a thrift shop that I have plans to separate and make a top and bottom out of.
This past weekend, we just had "the no underquilt hang" in Ocala, FL. The temps were in low 70's to possibly ~69. The only cover I used was my fleece blanket. That is the summer setup.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
Thanks, I was thinking that a liner would be
best for hygiene ad it's washable. I have also
thought about a multi use blanket as described.
Is that Kenyan blanket light weight?
I don't have a scale so I can't be specific. I looked online as well and couldn't find any weight listed for commercial styles. My liner is lighter. The only thing I can provide is size - it is about 55 x 72 inches. But, I wouldn't get caught up in the "Kenyan" notion - that sounds exotic, but in reality its a simple, lightweight blank of fabric that you can probably get locally at a fabric store for a couple of bucks.
