    Confused

Hey all, I have been on here for a while, lurking and reading but really am a bit lost. I have NOTHING to camp with and am starting from the beginning. I need a stove, backpack and hammock with net.

What do you all think I should start with? I am only buying one at a time because I don't have a lot of income. Unemployed.

    I have a couple bags:
    http://www.thenorthface.com/catalog/...egheny-bx.html (warm weather bag)
Kelty Ridgeway - older bag, heavy and warm!

I can start with one of these for under or top I think. This is all I have for gear.
I just want to get out, and get going asap.

PS: I have a $75 gift card to REI to use.

Thank you very much for your information

I think you meant stove, not stone, right? Other then using the fire, I bring a alcohol burning stove I made with a beer can, a cat food can, and a little fiberglass. Works great, even in subzero temps. I burn denatured alcohol in it, deet works, moonshine, vodka, something flammable.

Here's a large thread on them
    Here's a couple I made....

A lot of people make their ow gear with whats available, check out the DIY section.

I have seen these, and even have a few cat food cans laying around to try to make my own with. I should try that first before buying one for sure.

Rei gift card I would go with ENO Double nest hammock. Good starter hammock. You can buy a blue closed cell foam pad from Walmart to lay in hammock for bottom insulation, they are very inexpensive and an inexpensive blue tarp will get by for a rain fly. That's a cheap way to go for now

Definitely do the cat food stove. I made one earlier this spring and it works very well. Also, check out the link below. I love this guys website, he does lots of gear reviews from places like Costco and Army Outfitter. The below article I particularly liked.

If you have been lurking you should know there are multiple threads about this but for super cheap starter - Backpack go to the thrift stores. They will be your best bet. Stove - try the beer can stove that was recently discussed - I find free pepsi cans all over the place and they work a bit better than coke because if the bottom shape. Look at the various no sew hammock threads and get on JoAnn's mailing list. You will not find a hammock with net new but you might find one here used. If not a DIY is not hard. Straps from Harbor Freight, CF pad from Walmart or maybe REI, decent aluminum pot REI, ditto two oval biners climbing rated but cheapest there, Tarp - what can they come up with in Urethane/nylon as you cannot afford sil. Start playing there.
    YMMV

Or if you are the crafty type check out the DIY Tablecloth Hammock, I ordered 2 last night for $10 each plus shipping. I'll be selling my TLG hammocks and Bugsock once they arrive to build a new hammock for me and the kiddo.

The first question that needs to be answered is this:

    What is your goal?

Are you car camping, backpacking, or hiking?
