    Unhappy 190T Nylon vs 70d ?

    I'm trying to compare
    These Tarps

    vs

using the 70d Urethane Coated Ripstop Nylon, from DIYGearSupply to make my own.

I have an older version of the Sportsmansguide tarp, in the old white color, but I'm not sure what it was made out of, and after 6 years, it needs replacing.

How do the 2 Nylons compare in strength? or Water proofness?

Sil is out for me ATM, I'm at the slow point of the year for work, so I simply cannot afford $6+/yd

I don't have this years version of the SG tarp, but I expect it is the same weight fabric as prior years.

From my experience, the DIY Gear 70D ripstop will be a higher quality material and will definitely have a heavier PU coating (read higher strength with greater waterpfoofness).

    Thanks for the quick response

I think the 1,000mm polyurethane water coating, on the SG traps means that in testing, it takes pressure equivalent to 1,000mm (39.37") of water before leaking occurs.

I'm not really sure how that number equates to a driving rain.

to be honest, I'm also really afraid of dropping $40 to make a tarp, and screwing it up at a point in time during the year where i can't really just drop more $ to fix it.

    Still waiting for more opinions

Correct...I believe it refers the the waterproofing withstanding the pressure of a column of water 1000mm tall.

Waterproof rainwear is frequently rated to 2000-3000mm.

Here's what the 70d camo from Scott at DIYGS looks like when made into a hex tarp. It's much easier to work with than 30d syl.

I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."
