Having used Cuban tarps with both cat cuts and straight edges I prefer the cat cuts over straight cut I do feel it gets a tighter pitch. But cuben tarps don't stretch so the cat cuts can be very shallow I personally found it reduced the flapping in the middle of the tarp.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

My first Cuben tarp had straight cuts - I agree that cat cuts allow a tighter pitch.

+1 on HammockGear. My Winterpalace is actually my 2nd, and I had it dubbed the "WinterKingdom". It's a little longer, has a cat-cut ridgeline and straight bottom edges. I've seen absolutely no detriment to the bottom edges being straight. I can get it wicked tight, keep it super low, and can actually use the middle bottom pull out to really open up the middle if I want to. Personally, I wouldn't do it any other way.

    Love me some HammockGear.

I have to admit it's my favorite piece of gear. When I see the coverage of that tarp, and I realize it's only 8.5 ounces, well, it just makes me feel good.
