    KAQ Testing on Claytor JH

I got my KAQ in the mail today. Without any delay I ran into the backyard in the pouring rain and setup my hammock. I read the instructions for the KAQ installation.

I have to admit, I was concerned that the KAQ was not going to work with the Claytor. However, it works as if it was specifically made for the hammock.

I used the cold weather setup. I jumped in and read a book for about 45 minutes. I did not have anything on top of me, and felt cozy warm. After a while my toes, face, fingers started getting cold from the breeze. I decided to jump out and come in the house. Oh, the temp is about 40 deg F.

I am going to sleep in it and try it out tonight.

So far am in very impressed with the quilt, quality and customer service. Thanks John.

I have to change my tone a bit here. I was about to write how cold I was and that this UQ has failed my one night test. However, there are some things I have to consider.

The first is that I am using a hammock, which may not be acceptable for the quilt.

I setup the quilt, and laid in it for about 45 minutes without a top cover and felt OK, before I went to bed.

I adjusted several times to fix cold spots throughout the night. Then at about 3:30-4:00am I finally gave up because my entire back was cold. I added a heat sheet, but it didn't really help much.

I decided to do a comparison test. I took my KAQ off and replaced it with my JRB Nest. Instantly I felt warmer. However, this may have been because my body temp warmed up putting on the new quilt. After a few hours my back started getting cold and I became uncomfortable again, maybe not quite as bad because I was able to sleep for a while. I popped in my heat sheet and it helped a bit.

The other thing to consider is that when I checked the temps this morning, it dipped down to 37*F. Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think the KAQ, or Nest is good much below 45*F.

I am headed out back to try the KAQ again for a little while.

The KAQ ought to be good to 40degF. I've used mine to 16 degF with a reflective vapor barrier between the hammock and the quilt.

Sounds like you need to mess with it and learn how to fit it to your hammock, Scott.

    Thanks for the report.
I'm in the process of locating an UQ for my Claytor JH.

Now, now Neo. Respectfully, hang your own hammock, dude. You know as well as others here that hammocking isn't a one size fits all activity. Cut the dude some slack. Just because he bought something that you won't/can't, doesn't make it wrong.

kind of pricey when you dont get performance, not a good bang for the buck.my point is i would not use any quilt with a claytor or a dd hammock, quilts are great with asym design hammocks like warbonnet or hennesseyneo
