    Fabric Strength

Hi guys. I remember reading a post about fabric weights and the corresponding weight bearing capabilities. Now. Can't find it. My Google fu is not so good on tapatalk I guess. Would anyone have that info handy? I am wondering if a single layer of 30d ripstop would hold my 190 pound rear end. Also does anyone know what the safety factor built into those weights would be? If it says 30d 200 pounds is 190 pushing it, ok if very careful or just fine? Thanks a lot guys

IMO, fabric weight limits are determined by lawyer types and tend to be on the conservative side. I've used homemade hammocks made with materials that were under rated for my big butt and I've never had a problem. So long as you are not doing gymnastics in our hammock, I think there is a considerable safety margin in the quoted weight limits.

    Cool

Denier is only one factor that will affect tensile strength. Tensile strength will also correlate with thread count and number of plies in the yarn. Also if it is a military fabric such as the 30 denier fabrics that we sell, the tensile strength and weight bearing capability is fairly good since the military in most cases has much higher standards for cloth than the civilian market. Also, if you look up the mil-spec it will have the tensile strength listed for each fabric.

Also, nylon vs polyester and I've heard too, that coatings affect strength, not sure about breathable coatings like DWR and the like.
