We spent a week at Camp Woodruff, Ga. and it looked like a warmish week to be in a tent. I bought a HH Explorer and HexFly (It also looked like it might be a wet weekend) to try for the week. I also bought The Ultimate Hang which I read along with a lot of lurking here.
The first night it rained about the time I started to set up. Fortunately, I had the tarp and hammock set up with Rap Rings, atlas straps and snakeskins and had played with the setup before leaving (did I mention how much great information I read...) so I had the tarp up in seconds and the whole thing up in a few minutes. I also stayed dry.
I modded the hammock a little with tie-outs and sewed small rings to the tarp that came with it as well as to an old poly blanket (cheap car camping UQ). I used the tarp as a second bottom layer all week.
I slept with just a light BA sleeping bag the first night and was perfect, but woke up a touch cool on the bottom. The second night I tried the UQ (and adjusted the hang a bit) and was a bit warm. I also tried a night with a small thermarest.
All in all, I was very comfortable all week. I was also dry and bug free. It rained hard one evening and we had a couple of showers. I got to try several setups, and have it down - nothing down to 68ish, a thermarest below that and the UQ (gonna make a real one) if it gets colder than around 60.
A great first experience - Thanks to the members here and that great book. A couple of pics (let me know if you see anything that could be done better)-
