    Arrow Tarp Lines

    Hey folks,

I'm at the moment feeling a bit overwhelmed by the subject of lines for the tarp. At one time I simply would have used paracord and have been done with it, but I really appreciate the thought of lighter, stronger, cordage with less bulk.

I just do not know much about rope, what I should use or what I should stay away from. I understand things like twisted or braided. But I do not know the characteristics and qualities of various lines.

I would appreciate an education on various types of cordage.

Amsteel is great for almost anything.
Plus you can make great things like Whoopie Slings out of it.
You can also go with something called "Lash-It"

    I for one like No-Tangle line.....http://www.tttrailgear.com/hammock-camping-accessories/
I just tie it. Find it simple and can see it and it does not light up like a disco at night. Works well for me. I enjoy the orange color.
There are many other lines you can get. Lash-it and that type can be spliced if that is your thing.
    Carry forth,

Lash it/Zing it can be spliced but get tangled. Zline can't be spliced but doesn't tangle. Braided line can be spliced if it's a big enough diameter. The smallest I've spliced is 1.75mm Zing it, dunno how much smaller you can go.

I am currently using 1.75mm Lash-it w/Dutchware Stingerz at each end and 1.5mm Z-line at the tie outs. The Lash-it allows me to get a tight ridgeline, the Z-line holds a Tautline hitch really well. This setup gives me a drum-tight pitch.

If I am using a tarp with doors, I secure them with 1/32 shock cord which allows me slip through easily.

    Good Luck

Is Z-line lighter? Or just less tangle prone?

I used zing it cause that's what I had. My knots with it have held good.

SwinginIt thanks! This is is the sort of information I am trying to understand. Everyone has their favorite line, I was watching some Youtube videos with folks using braided mason line. I want to know why folks are using those lines and their advantages and drawbacks.

Shug, I have enjoyed your videos and found them very helpful. Since I saw that you had worked for Ringling Brothers, I've wanted to ask you if that ever brought you to Norfolk, Virginia. Were you there in 1980 for the blizzard that had the crew and audience camping over night at Scope?

I have had zero trouble with tangles and it holds a tautline hitch better than the coated Zing-it. I also like that it makes a nice compact wrap, smaller than Lash-it, making the tarp easier to stow and to deploy.

I was on the Red Show in 1980 but have no recollection of that event. But I would have marched my way to the train as clown shoes make good snowshoes)))))
