    Softshackle for End Channel??

While working on the hammocks for my family, working up some splicing skills; continuous loops, fixed length ridgelines, whoopies, nacrabiners, etc.

Question, are folks using softshackles in the end channel?

Figured it would make it easier to remove the whoopies and attach the ridgeline.

Sure I could get some Dutch whoopie hoooks but if the kids see them, they'll want them and I am NOT buying 25 pairs of titanium hooks. So I am making lots of nacrabiners.

Here is a shot of one of the shackles I've been making.

Gen 1 attempt before burying everything.

Been using a softshackle to link my tree huggers to the old whoopies for a couple weeks.

    Here is the new setup.

    Ratdog:

I don't see why you couldn't use soft shackles through the channels. However, your soft shackles look a little suspect. What instructions are you using to construct them?

There appears to be no backsplice, the adjustable loop looks too big, and its splice does not appear to be buried in the knot. I'd be a little concerned deploying that type of soft shackle on 25 hammocks.

I've been hanging from these soft shackles for over a year with no problems:

However, some people call that soft shackle a "utility shackle" not suitable for bearing a person's weight. Them that frown on this type of soft shackle usually prefer this design with a diamond knot:

Yikes, maybe I haven't been doing these right.
So far, I'm the only user, always testing stuff on myself first.

    Followed nacrabiner directions here

I start by doing a bury, exit the bury and lock it, then finish with a diamond knot and the bury the tag ends of the knot into eachother.

The loop shrinks when you slide the bury toward the loop end.

I followed opie's video for making the basic shackle and diamond knot.

I use soft shackles to gather all my hammocks. I don't bother with the bury, I just run the cord through itself and tie a lanyard (diamond) knot. I pull the tails all the way in, when I tighten the knot for a nice clean ball on the end - no slipping or failures in any knots.

Never mind. I haven't seen these before.

Finally put the to use on the GT Double along with my DIY whoopies.

Having one at the strap instead of a larkshead makes it easier to adjust the length of the whoopie.

    Full setup

Nice thing about whoopies, the long hang when needed.
