    Caribou Lake, Trinity Alps

    I am back!!
Great trip with my daughter and a couple of friends. All four of us used hammocks. Some of the prettiest country I have seen!

I will just post a link to the Flickr page with the pictures of this trip.

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/katpier...7634841192968/

We hiked in almost 10 miles, had the prettiest camp, day hiked to other lakes and swimming holes.

Thanks for all the great gear.
    Where to start..
I used my new BIAS hammock, ( thanks BIAS guys!)
    My daughter used a Traveller.
We shared an OES winter tarp, just in case the rumble panned out.
Hammock Gear underquilts were awesome. I used the 3/4 and zipped my cheap Costco puffy around my feet and the hammock and it work great.
Dutch all the way for straps, clips, stingerz etc. love it.
    Lots of titanium pots.
Packs were ULA Ohm and Osprey Hornet.
    Cheap trekking poles worked great.

My 17 year old daughter was a champ, hiking with her 10 dollar flea market trail runners.
The two of us hiked in on our own, enjoying every bit of view, rock, plant, root, tree, shadow, cloud and smell. Sometimes I feel like such a geek to get so happy about all the things I notice; her and I were on the same wave length on that one.

    Thanks!
We started at Big Flat, 18 miles in Coffee Creek ( 12 of them gravel).
It was pretty hot but we had this great cloud right in front of the sun that seemed to follow us and make it so much nicer.

I waved to you as I drove past Redding. I looked longingly at the Alps as I headed north. I love that area, just wish it wasn't so far away. It's about 6 hour drive for me. I remember Big Flat. How was the water level in the streams this year? Did you see any fish in Caribou lake?

It was long drive for us too; over 9 hours with a couple of stops to grab sandwiches and permits.
Water level was very low, the lowest I have seen here. This was the third time to Caribou. My ninth Trinity trip.
Just a few trout jumping out.

Let me know if you want to go. It's a haul but I love it there.

No wonder you love it there, it looks like paradise...and those are just the pictures. I would have found it very difficult to leave. Truly awesome spot, this is the place I want to visit when I go to the west coast. Thanks for sharing.
