Maybe another sub-forum, for gear?

I find that with all the information that I've found in the normal forums that donating to help keep the site running was worth the $10 all by itself. Finding out all the extra information is an added bonus.

However you find that once you become a paying member that you are much more vested in the site and that you might not want to leave...

Not to mention all the other cool toys you learn about:

Thank you to all for the unamiously good information!
There would probably be more like you, (donors), and less like me if the information about being a Donating Member was somewhere to be read in an obvious place....hint. (But, my apologies if it's out there already, and I have passed by it a hundred times and never noticed....that would be normal MO for me!)
I've seen the "Donating Member" banner on member's IDs, but was unaware what it meant or the signifance.
But now, thanks to your replies, I do! ...and I'll be taking the red pill! (aka: "pushing the button"!) Thanks!

Well, it's in the site's Terms of Service (ie, the rules). It's a permanent sticky in the announcements forum. There's a permanent sticky in this very subforum. There's a link at the very top of the forum. And everyone has to agree to the TOS that contains it when they join the forum.

We just don't know how to make it more obvious without being obtuse about it.

TOS? Who reads that?

Honestly, I don't ever read them because I know in my head that I'm going to play nice with others. I do try to read the rules of specific sub-forums though, like the For Sale sections and such. I do miss things there too though.
