    Magna Fabrics, Shipping

I'm looking at picking up 2 35 yard rolls of fabric from Magna, for like 80 bucks

But... Shipping is nearly $50 Is that normal?

Anyone know if they allow local pickup? I'm less then an hour and a half away from them.

Yeah shipping long rolls of fabric is expensive. I have priced it myself and the shipping cost is fair.

Will they ship it off the roll? That would save some weight and make it a more manageable size.
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!

I doubt it. Unrolling and folding ~40 yards of fabric would be a pain and you wouldn't enjoy dealing with it on your end either.

It's the length, not the weight that's the issue.

Just get used to the idea that when you see $1.25/yd it means ~$2.00/yd shipped. Still WAY less than any other supplier.

Yeah that's about right, just got my 36yds from them at $45 for the fabric plus $20 shipping. The roll it comes on isn't like the short bolt of fabric you see at your local shop - it's the full 60+ inch tube so oversize and thus understandably more expensive to ship. They ship priority too - was at my doorstep less than 48hrs after getting the shipping notice (granted took 12 days to get shipped but ...)

As gmcttr said still darn cheap per yard even with the shipping. $65/36yd = $1.80.yd or almost half what it'd be at BWDD for 2nds (Sorry Scott - got the rest of the supplies from you though + way friendlier service! )

I finally heard back from them directly, and found that I can schedule local pickup

    So $1 a yard truly means $1 a yard

I know what 60" and 72" rolls are like. I worked a fabric mill here in NY for a few years.

So now, instead of dropping $50 on shipping, I get to drop $50 on more fabric.

And I need to be in the next town over from Magna the end of the month, so gas isn't even being wasted getting it.

Even with shipping it still an excellent price. I have ordered from them 3 times now and I have enough fabric to keep me busy with projects for months.
