I use a 3 foot length of 7/64 amsteel and use a double fishermans bend to make a loop. Feed the loop thru the channel, cinch up the channel and feed one of the loop thru the other and wrap it around the end of the hammock twice creating a muchroom head and then feed the loop back thru the U that was formed in the end of the hammock and tighten.

http://www.animatedknots.com/doublefishermans/ on how to tie the knot.

    +1 on this, works great.

The hybrid is what I do. I believe it's the Knotty method or mod. I make a very small channel end so I don't lose but ~5 inches of hammock body length overall when complete.

Here is the thread for the Knotty mod...http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=15205

A small cord, even the very thin and light mason line, will work. Pass the line through channel and gather the entire width together and tie off. Then I larkshead my whoopiesling below the "mushroom". Clean and neat.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

How do you finish the end of a gatherred end?

I just made a channel end, and then ran my whoopies right through the channel. I did this for my scout troop.

+1 on this one, I have never been able to get the whipped end hammocks that I made comfortable so I always go back to the end channels and continuous loops

Started a thread on how I attach my ridgeline and suspensions to my hammocks. Also adding a video of it to my signature.

Thanks for the Video Xtrekker, I think I'm going to try this on my next hammock.

Is there any source for 10 or less cheap zip ties to try this with? What's the minimum length needed for a 60" hammock?

I checked Ace a few days ago, and lengthy zip ties aren't cheap.. and aren't sold in packs less the 100.

Dont go cheap on your ziptie. Get at least an 11" in ziptie or bigger. Lowes and home depot have a nice selection to choose from. Don't use the walmart zipties, they pop loose to easy. Learned that when I used to pull cables
