Next up- helium infused cuben. At a minus 1.1 oz. per yard, the larger your tarp the lighter your weight. Unfortunately it will be 10 times the cost of cuben.

    What's it made of?
It's cuben, 12' x standard width. Some may say my dementia is the amount of gear I own. Then I come here and am reassured that they're all the crazy ones.

I must be doing something wrong my kit weights 10lbs thats clark nx250 vertex tarp, phoenix 20 uq, under quilt protector, atlas straps, carabiners, snake skins for tarp, camp pillow, light fleece blanket and small leg pillow in a 30l compression sack? Why so heavy?

    Reasons:
    1. You have a Clark, I believe they are about the heaviest on the market.
    2. Atlas straps
    3. Carabiners
    4. Fleece blanket (The one I used to use weighed 2lbs, I'm only guessing yours is about the same.)
    5. The pillows?

    Solutions:
    1. Lighter hammock and tarp (plenty of options you'd just have to decide what suits you.)
    2. Standard polyester straps
    3. Either no biners or if you just love the convenience, Dutch clips
    4. TQ
    5. IF you have weighty pillows, try clothes in a stuff sack for your legs and a lighter pillow for your head (ie down or inflatable)

Weigh each item and see where you could save the biggest with least money.

Leave out the pillows and carabiners to start with.

The hammock fabric was sold to me as 1.6oz/y but I worked out that it was more like 2.0oz/y so my next one will be 1.1oz/y, and I'm going to experiment with lengths/widths/footbox etc. that will half the hammock weight.

Suspension - I am planning on getting dynaglide for ucrs, and webbing with a lower breaking strain (currently 3500lb I think, going to 1500lb), that'll shave an oz or more. Also going to lose the tyvek bag, and may just carry ti pin stakes and use sticks if I need better hold.

    Bug net is fine.

I already have enough silnylon to make another tarp or two, so a hex instead of a winter tarp will shave some weight.

It should be quite possible to knock almost a lb off without losing any comfort

Insulation, going to get some downy goodness from hammock gear when I can afford it. For 0º and full length uq and tq it should be around 56oz halving the weight there too. Obv summer setup will be even lighter.

I'm saving atm but it is slow progress.
Oh alright I see! I have thought about going with 1.1 for my hammock but I herd it stretches? And idk how much I would like that

How tough is Cuban fiber vs ripstop nylon?

I don't know how it is by comparison but cuben is some pretty tough stuff. One benefit to it is if it does get a tear it can be repaired easily in the field with cuben tape and will still be waterproof. I always carry a lil bit of cuben tape with me.

Oh dang that Cuban tape sounds like a pretty amazing idea... So smart of someone that made it. Well it's really krinkele though isn't it? And does it only really come in clear ish?
Because I pour piously got mine black after trying a few other color tarps the sun kills my eyes in the morning. So I got the black to blot out the light
