Crinkely, yes. Transparent, yes. But it wasn't so bad that it makes a difference to me. But it sounds like it might to you. You should find someone local to you and check it out.

It's not too bad crinkly. It's more so than sil, but not bad. I don't notice it. It typically comes in clear but HG now has camo, and there is a green that's not quite as translucent, although I don't know if anyone is making tarps with it. And I think I remember hearing something about a black, but I may be completely wrong about that.

I like the idea of going lighter with cuben, but it just seems like we are getting to the point of diminishing returns as far as costs go. And it does look a little too Sci-fi-esque for me, but to each his own.

Foe me the only way to go Cuben was DIY. I ended up spending about $250 for my Cuben tarp. That came out to be 2.5 times the cast of Sil. But after using it for 2 years its one of the best tarps I have. It what I'll use on my thru next year.
I have the Hammock Gear camo Cuban Tarp and it was a bit annoying the first night I was in it. All that crinkling. But you get use to it very quickly and now it doesn't bother me. Also, it is still fairly transparent, but that doesn't bother me either. I like getting up with the chickens.
