Just got another email back from the Harrisonburg/Shenandoah Valley KOA

We can offer a group price of $12 per person, per day and give you the entire upper tent area.
This price would include use of the pavilion for the entire time.
We offer breakfast service on weekends 9-11
We make fresh pizza on site Friday and Saturdays.
From the photos all the camping areas look to be fairly wooded.
Still no response yet from the other campgrounds, but there is still alot more campgrounds to email. Ill keep plugging away at it till we find one the organizers can work with..

    Martin,

Yes, the regulation for hammock camping is included in the 2013 park compendium that can be found at http://www.nps.gov/prwi/parkmgmt/upl...an-version.pdf on page 20.

Are you talking about 100+ people or campsites? Our group camping area (Turkey Run Campground) is open year-round and can accommodate well over 100 campers, but must be rented on-line at www.recreation.gov . You can also make reservations for individual campsites that hold up to six people in Oakridge campground - also reservable on www.recreation.gov

Please call the visitor center at 703.221.7181 for further information about the camping options at Prince William Forest Park.

    Have a wonderful week!

    Just bumping this idea.....
Was Prince William Forrest Park not considered a viable option for the hang?
Only about an hour or so south of the 1st site considered. Just wondering.
Thanks for everyone's help, hopefully it will yield a great location for the hang.

We would need someone to do a site visit and talk to the park officials in person as there seems to be some confusion about what is allowed. Nothing beats a site visit for getting all details ironed out. WV posted this previously.

The regulations say tents only at group campsites and a maximum of two hammocks per site at the other campgrounds. This doesn't sound very promising, but communicating ahead of time should be helping to educate them about the hammock camping community, even if this is not the year to try to comply with their regulations. You never know. It also sounds as if the superintendent has the authority to say what's what.

She says 100 campers but is that 100 hammock campers?

Will some volunteer to check it out?

I agree with Happy Camper someone will need to clarify but I think the part that says "tents only" at the group campsite is referring to the fact that this is a backcountry site only.

It also says a bit below that that hammocks are allowed at the Turkey Run campsite (group site) providing that 1.5 inch straps are used on tree that are larger than 6". It does follow to say only 2 hammocks per site but I would take this to apply to the single sites not the group one.

hopefully someone can call and get a definitive answer as this looks like a great place for the hang
    see you on the trail,

Could be "tents only" as opposed to RV's and such. But I guess the point is moot.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I have contacted each Camp (Highroads and Meadowkirk) They are next door each other near Aldie Virginia. I am awaiting call backs from the camp directors.

Meadowkirk- Pavilion is already booked for 2013 but I want to talk to them about in the upcoming years.

Highroads- The section we would use is available and the are 4 smaller pavilions there. Parking may be tight but there are overflow areas. They charge $7 per person per night with just a $50 deposit. I have scout camped in this location and I believe it would accommodate us. I can go out there afterwork to scout it out again.

    Location Map

    Camp map

    Facilities
We would be in Pioneer. Former summer camp area with tent platforms removed. 4 sections. There is a bathhouse as well. and running water in each pavilion.
