Dutch is checking on some new locations. I don't live near any of the areas where I think the hang should be located so I am in a holding pattern as well. If Dutch's sites don't pan out then we will encourage additional discussion on a new location.

    Thanks for checking in.

Thanks! Our issues are that we are a big group and many of the land administrators don't understand hammock camping. You know how that goes. Still working on it though.

Where about in VA. does this normally happen? Could you use a place like Sherandoh lake camping area? Or is it not centralized enough? Or maybe Natural Bridge, Claytor lake?

In the past it was held at Gathland State Park, Maryland but we got too big. Dutch is trying 1 or 2 locations but if that doesn't workout we will be reviewing the suggestions people have already posted on this thread and will be open to any new locations. Thanks so much for posting.

Sorry to say that so far we've had no luck finding a new place for the Fall MAHHA. Members have posted previously about their willingness to check out new locations. I'm not from the area and Dutch hasn't had any luck near where he lives so anyone who is willing to do a site visit, please do. Here's what we need from a new camping location.

Date: We need to reserve it for the 3rd weekend in October. Oct. 19-21, 2013. Friday, Saturday, Sunday
    Parking for 80 cars.
    A covered pavilion.
Restrooms that can accommodate 100 people.
Camping areas with enough trees for 80 - 100 hammocks. Clear of brush, poison ivy, briars.
    Fire rings a plus.
Water pump or stream where water can be filtered.

Rental Fee - We are getting to be such a large group I would prefer a place where everyone pays their own camping fees and organizers just pay for pavillion use, etc. Organizers can't be on the hook for a large rental fee. If it's bad weather and hardly anyone comes, it would be just a few paying the large fee.

Prefer a location that is centrally located. South-center PA, MD, or northern-center Virginia. But we'll take what we can get!

Let me know if you can scout an area and talk to local officials. Again, we are such a large group, I'd like the locals to have a full understanding of our group. Post if you have questions. Thanks.

    West Virginia for MAHHA?

    Hi HappyCamper et al,

What about a West Virginia state park (assuming a covered pavilion is available)? (apologies if this was hashed out earlier in this or other threads)

I know MD, PA, VA are preferred but my son and I recently visited WV (yes, the renowned DIY hammocker, bread maker, and chef extraordinaire who lives in the wilds of his nom de plume) and from my house in Silver Spring, MD (outside Washington, DC), it's only 4 hours and change to the heart of the Monongahela National Forest.

The Monongahela National Forest is so big and beautiful (as you know), it'd be wonderful to have a hang there. Plus I64 provides ample opportunity for spirited driving through the mountains.

I wouldn't be able to do the research but I'd be happy to organize carpools from the DC area.
