wow sir white wolf; It was beginning to sound like the hair on the back of the neck was up and some teeth were showing.(just kidding of course ). Reading the post of the elders here discussing the benefits and non benifits of a pads. Is there any benifit to having a double layer hammock for the use of the pads. Because not even owning an UQ I can understand SWW point of view . I currently own a wally world 1/2 inch thick X 72 inch long X 25 inches wide blue pad. When laying in the hammock it's fine as far as keeping me warm. But when I want to move it's not all that easy, I tend to stick to it. I can only speculate on what a UQ feels like but when in the hammock with no pad it is even more comfy. I ordered the double layer BB for the reason of sticking to the pad.
Thank you gentlemen for your insights to the matter of pads and UQ's.
Note to self (need and UQ ASP)
TY
Yes, a pad between the layers of a double layer hammock does remove many of the negative pad aspects that you have mentioned - sticking, keeping it in place, and even sweating to some extent.
Despite the fervent support of many of the UQ-peferring people, using a pad is a perfectly acceptable means of insulation and it can be very comfortable. In fact, sometimes I prefer one and will carry it even though I own several UQ's. In fact, this very weekend I used a wide 1/4" thick Speer Sleep Pad in my double-layer hammock at a hangout.

SWW your opinion is definitely listened to by myself and many other newbies. Mainly because you speak of your methods and experiences. Which everyone that has been hammocking does. I was just playin I know you guys were just debating as elders should do.( sorry keep calling you that but in my opinion elders speak wisdom due to the fact they have experienced what it is we newbies want to learn .when I refer to you guys as elders I mean it with the utmost respect.)
Thanks GOLFER
I didnt see it as any one getting to hackled on the post, just my view

I've gotta say, in warm weather, 65 and up, I don't like to use a pad. I agree with the folks saying that it reduces the comfort factor. That being said, I had a chance to use the Exped Synth Mat Deluxe I got on clearance at REI. I was only down to 25 with it and it was very comfortable in the hammock, more so than a thermarest IMO. Still working on an underquilt, when I make one that fits and works, I won't pack the Exped mat either.
(all temperatures referred to in the above post are in degrees Fahrenheit, Imperial System Woo!)
I have used pads a lot in mild and very cold weather. Sometimes with a UQ and sometimes with an SPE and sometimes with a UQ and SPE. Pads don't bother me too much as I started with them and they are dear to me for that reason alone.
That said ... lately I have been trying to master my use of hammocks with only UQs and no pads. Very comfortable.
This spring I will use a 1/2 UQ with a pad .. GG short pad or cut down Thremarest Z-lite for feet. I also carry a 14"x12" piece of Reflectix that I have been experimenting with.
If it is REALLY hot ... I will try just a DriDuck Poncho Weathershield and NO PAD ... and possibly no DDPW.
SO MANY OPTIONS......
But I always carry some sort of a length of pad so far.
OK, I just read this and confused myself..... It really just depends on my "gut feeling" whilst packing. There. I am done.
Good Thread.

So if I understand this thread right I probably wont need a pad this summer when the coolest it gets at night is 100 degrees? Great, maybe with the weight savings from not carrying a pad I can pack on of these. http://www.rei.com/product/709077
