Hammock poles

My wife and I just got into hammocks and we want to use them not only for backpacking but for hanging in the yard. The problem is that we don't have trees or stands. I was thinking about cementing some treated 4x4 or even some metal tubing we have laying around (I would obviously need to install an attach point to prevent slippage). I just wanted to throw this out and see what kind of advice or feedback you all had for us.

Has anyone had this kind of issue before? What have you done?

use 4x6 minimum or even better 6x6 lots of threads about this I would hit up the search feature.

4x4's can be a bit vulnerable if there are any faults or grain runoff issue. 4x6's oriented correctly are a better option.

For my own setup, if I were doing one, I would make them removable for the sake of back yard aesthetics and to make the project more acceptable to the marital unit. Also I would most likely use steel pipe. My thought was to set a couple feet of schedule 40 pvc in concrete and fab up some sort of covers for when the poles stored way.

Why not build a pergola? Not only will you have a place to hang a couple of hammoks, but it will be decorative and functional.

Well, we have a storage complex and we live on the site so we don't have an actual yard that we are trying to pretty up. We live on the edge of a very small town and we have 10 unused acres and we would like to set up our hammocks now and again to watch the stars (plus I can experiment with my rig).

Thanks everybody I really appreciate the advice... I have seen a few other threads about this on here. So here is my plan... I'll use 6x6 bury them probably 2 foot deep at a slight angle ( it would look like this \ / still undecided about the exact angle but I'll figure that out). I'll then run a cable from the top of each post to a cemented anchor for added support (probably overkill). From the base the posts will be 15' apart.

Keep your suggestions coming if you have any, I probably won't start this for a couple weeks but when I finish I'll post a snapshot.

I don't remember who posted it awhile back but I thought it was a great idea. The put cement into 5 gallon buckets with a PVC poles in the middle just large enough to allow the metal poles they were using to slide into them. They buried them in the ground a few feet and back filled them and cut the PVC off at ground level that way they could mow right over it and slide the poles in and out as needed.
