Decided to try a DIY hammock...

I recently decided to try to make my own hammock. I haven't touched a sewing machine since "Family Consumer Science" in middle school. Here's a couple of pictures with me in it. I'll have to take a couple more of it hanging at home...

Next step is to sew on a zippered bugnet. I only have a coil zipper, for this go-around, so the bugnet won't be removable. Next time, I'll pick up some separating zippers.

I'll have some more pictures tonight or tomorrow.

Well, I have not yet added a bugnet to this particular hammock, but I did practice on a older GT hammock (didn't want to mess up my hard work). Here are the results...

I'm going to add pull-outs to open it up a bit, but otherwise, I'm very happy with the outcome. I will definitely be adding one to my DIY, now!

    Excellent work - you're a natural!
I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."

    Finished!

Well, I finished it up last night... I'm very happy with how it turned out. I'm going to have to replace the zipper sliders with double-sided sliders. I managed to lock myself in, as the zippers are single-sided and locking. I zipped it up with no problem, assuming I could push the zipper down from inside. Nope. It was marginally terrifying, but my wife was kind enough to let me out.

Without further ado, the full album...
