    Only on hammock forums...

There's only one place I know of where 2 dudes get together on a Sunday night and sew, I mean inject thread...

While I was batchn' it for a week (the wife was in FL visiting family), Slowanderer was kind enough to invite me over to enjoy a home cooked meal. The highlight of the night, besides the delicious BBQ Chicken and a couple Laughing Labs, was sewing up some new gear.

    Thanks Slowanderer!

I asked my wife to teach me how to use the sewing machine. She just laughed and said, "I'm not helping you spend even MORE money on all this camping stuff."

So, instead, I got a separate PayPal account and credit card...

My wife wants to sew up holes in clothes now. I tell her that she took the same sewing class I did and she knows where the thread injector is. Boy, do I live dangerously...

The term thread injector kills me. So you sew, can create stuff, fix stuff and all that. Thread injectors....

4 of us last Sunday night, 5 with the little man who finally crashed.

A revised stuff sack, hammock satchel, and the boy explaining whoopieslings to the newcomer.

It was a great evening, lots of laughs.

My wife always asks me to teach her to sew that's her excuse to get me to make her or a friend some clothes.I hate to make clothes they are used a few times and exiled to the back of the closet never to be seen again. Gear is another thing you make it use it and pass it on when you make that new improved version. Old gear never dies it just gets repurposed.

Tell her to watch my video series! She can learn just as easily as you! My wife actually wears some of the clothes I have made for her. Not often. But without my asking her... so that says something.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

This thread makes me want to learn to sew and make my own gear. Where do I begin? All that I know of the subject is it involves a needle and thread. Is it really that simple, tie some thread to a needle and starting running it in and out of the fabric?

Gack!!! NO... Don't tie the thread to the needle. You thread the needle, tie a knot in the end or tie the two ends together in one knot. If you tie the thread to the needle the knot will keep the thread from pulling through. That's the point behind the knot. To secure the thread while the needle moves freely. Unless of course you are using a machine. In which case you don't tie any knots at all. But it is one of those things that is very easy to learn and a lifetime to master.
