There is a Boy Scout camp just north of Ville Platte called Mt Bayou.

I used to go all the time, way back when I was a scout. If you can't get in there, just south of Mt. Bayou is Chicot State Park.

Lake Chicot State Park!! Hands down one of the best trails within three hours of Baton Rouge. Has all the facilities you would expect at a state park. The trail itself is 20 miles long with many sites along the way. Nice hills surrounded by Louisiana cypress, swamps and thick hardwood. My favorite site is backpacking site four which I believe is about 1.5 miles from the trailhead and is atop a large hill over looking the lake. Check it out! I know that gators are thee but in my years of hiking and kayaking there I have never seen one. Can't say the same for wild hogs though!

I will call them both to make sue that we can start a camp fire, etc. Sometimes an issue with BSA property, but probably not at Chicot. 1.5 miles, a hill, a lake... That has some real potential. Thanks guys!
