Suggestions for an easy-open soft shackle

    Hello,

I am experimenting with rigging a tarp. To connect the tarp to the tree, I have one long length of 1.75mm lash-it with a soft shackle end on it. On the other end, I have a short piece of lash-it configured as a single-line friction knot (much better than the Prusik it seems) with a stopper knot on the end. I slide the stopper up and down the tail of the soft shackle, allowing me to adjust how large of a loop I make to connect the tarp to the tree.

I am not excited about the prospects of trying to open the soft shackle loop if it's cold or dark out. There isn't much to grab onto. I've seen some pictures of soft shackles made from larger rope that have smaller lines spliced into the loops, presumably for grabbing more easily to open the loop. Is there something like this that people do with 1.75mm lash-it soft shackle loops? I have some ideas but I want to see if this is a solved problem.

    Thanks!

I have spliced a small continuous loop to make it easier to grab.

Then wind the loop around to the side that will pull to loosen the bury.

Also, make sure when doing the original bury, that there is extra on the outer sheath so you can slide the excess up towards the shackle making it easier to loosen.

The problem with lash it is the "sticky" covering that really likes to grab.

Example with 7/64 shackle using zing it pull loop.

I use cord locks, I find they hold fine and are easy to adjust.

This guy puts a length of smaller thread through the buried part further down and sticking out of the bury a couple of inches when cinched closed. Then knot the ends of it, making it easier to grasp and hold while milking the bury down to release the diamond stopper knot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jH66tGsWv_Y
