So, here's a thing I've been considering lately.
First: A rundown of my suspension.
On either end of my hammock, I've got about a 1' dogbone with a carabiner in the open end. I feel like it's not only super convenient to not have to wrap stuff around my hammock when I take it down, but it's pretty clean (as in "no cordage everywhere"). From the carabiner, I can either hook straight to my tree strap with a marlin spike hitch or I can hook into a whoopie sling, then attach the whoopies to the tree straps (again with a marlin spike hitch and toggle).
With as long as my hammock is, more often than not I find myself foregoing whoopies altogether and going straight to the tree strap. Is it inconvenient? Not at all. Am I bored with it? Absolutely. I have to tinker with my setup.
I've done whoopies, but here lately I've had a UCR on the brain. I've never used one and wonder about how well it would do with my setup.
The question that begs asking now is what benefit (besides maybe a few grams) is there to using a UCR as opposed to a whoopie sling?
