I am wanting to buy some amsteel, but I am one of those touch and feel kind of guys. I want to see it, feel it. I don't mind making a drive to get it. Is there anywhere East of Forth Worth and North of Lufkin that carries it?

So the desire to touch and feel before I buy has been superseded by the desire to get going with this so. I broke my purchasing comfort zone and ordered from Dutch. Now I will be like the kid waiting on the decoder ring in a Christmas Story. Some how I get the feeling I will not be as disappointed as he was when it finally arrived.
I did the drive-around thing checking marine stores so I could fondle the Amsteel and Zing-It, but I just got blank stares. Pretty much my entire hammock setup can't be touched and felt at a local store:
Dutch Flyz, Whoopie Hooks and other bling
HG TQ & UQ
BIAS WWM hammock
HG Winter Palace tarp
1.75 mm Zing-It ridgeline and guy-outs
Amsteel Whoopie Slings
Touchy-feely just doesn't work too well with hammocking very well. And you might notice, that builds up a lot of anticipation as we regularly see posts about somebody ordering something and being tortured by the wait.
Enjoy your wait!
Thanks! The more I read and the more I get into this the more I see my self making all my own stuff. I ordered four whoopie slings from Dutch and 50' of Amsteel. I plan to make a few of my own whoopies. I've all ready got nylon webbing to replace my Slap Straps. BTW this will be their last camping trip with me this weekend.
How did this go?
I would like to hear how Amsteel, Zing It, Lash It, and Dynaglide all feel.
I want to assume that the last 3 are pretty similar.
Would it be a true conclusion that all Amsteel feels the same?
Is it all from the same producer, or do these vary greatly?
I never thought that this little rope would be produced by
different people under the same name.
I never found any at local stores - ordered online. Dynaglide is by far the softest feel - Zing-it is a lot stiffer and more difficult to milk the bury.
Even Amsteel 7/64" and 1/8" feel different. The 7/64" is 8-strand and the 1/8" 12 strand. I find the 1/8" is easier to milk, so I use it a lot for soft shackles.
Amsteel Blue is the trade name of a rope and not the type fiber it is made from. There are two products made by Samson Rope that are named Amsteel. The first is Amsteel which we do not use. The second is Amsteel Blue which is a higher strength version and the one we use and commonly call amsteel. And yes, Amsteel Blue comes in a variety of colors. Confused yet?
There are also several ropes made from the same base fiber with similar properties, but they haven't been discussed here often.
Now here I sit at work and seeing that the goods are delivered; I call my son, "hey did I get a package in the mail today?" ; "Um dad I have to finish this game, then I'll go check and call you back."
Breath deeply; count to 100; and ignore the desire to use the force and kill him from 15 miles away....
BTW, 50% of that package is his Birthday Present.... Today he turned 13.
West Marine has a store on I-30 just east of Lake Ray Hubbard. I've never been in the store so couldn't say if they would have the small dia. lines you would be wanting. I just order from them online.
My last order I went with the 3/16 because it was cheaper than the 1/8. I'm a big guy and I'm not concerned with the minimal few extra gms, rather have the extra strength.
