    Greetings from another Texas boy

    Howdy Gang,
Great to find this place. I'm starting back into camping/hiking after a 10 year hiatus. (After getting back from Iraq, I just lost interest in all things camping....go figure) I used to be pretty involved in a few Bushcraft type forums that existed at the end of the '90s and early '00s and even moderated a couple of Field Medical sections. (Just as a side note, I am not a Doctor of any kind. I was a Combat Medical Corpsman assigned to the Marines and Doc was the nickname that I picked up.)
Now I'm getting back to what I love and want to give Hammock Camping a go. I picked up a Hennessey Asym (I have no idea if they had an actual model name back in 2000) and played around with it a bit but it was too short for my 6'2" #230 size. (Not exactly a tiny frame)
Now it's time to start looking at various options and get my butt hanging.
Glad to see that there is now an entire forum and tons of experience here for me to draw upon before I spend my hard earned money.
Also hope to find some folks to hang with here in South Central Texas.
    Can't wait to dive in.
    Doc

Welcome, we always love people with true
field experience, and a combat medic is a great
    friend to have!

I place those third behind a quartermaster and a cook,
those two can keep you happy. Medics just help to stop
    you from bleeding!

I'm a veteran myself, but I never went over to the sand pit.

Welcome from a signal corpsman from Corpus Christi.

By the way, we are having a group hang up in Fairfield, TX in
November. Check out the group hang section for details.
Right now over 50 people are tenatively going.

Welcome to the site recondoc. Take your time wading through the info here ... there is a ton of it. If you have any questions, just ask away. There will be someone to give you an answer in a heartbeat.

Like Trambo said, check out the group hang. There are so many variations and mixed & matched systems, you would be hard pressed to google them in a timely manner.

Medics are a great friend to have if you drink a lot. A Sunday night lactated ringer IV is a lifesaver for a rough Monday morning PT session!! I've opted for two bags of a few occasions!!

Welcome, recondoc, and thanks for your service. Same to all our veterans here.

It's great site and we look forward to your posts. You might consider the paid membership for access to other topics. We've talked about first aid and emergency/survival topics lately. There's a Texas group hang in the works, too.

welcome from South Texas... Check out the Fairfield group hang thats coming up in a few months... even if you just come out for the day and hang out, you will get to see a lot of hammocks and tarps and whatever else shows up... most of the time you can lay in them and get a feel for them...

Welcome from VA Doc! I am a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran and we always took special care of our Doc's. Much respect for you guys putting it all out there patching us Devil Dogs up on and off the battlefield. Hard to say over the years how many guys y'all have saved, this Marine says thank you. Welcome aboard and I hope to see you around.
