('cause I can't insert pics for some reason)
The pole under your rig is a danger point and the word 'portable' is something of a term of art, but other than that, yeah it works.
And at a "today's special" price of $158.95 you could build several Turtle Dog Stands.

So many trees, so little time...
They work great for the supplied hammock, which is quite comfortable for being a shorter brazilian. However they are too short and not quite tall enough for normal camping hammocks that have more sag. It might work out ok for travel style hammocks, but I don't have one to test out on the stand.
As far as portability, it packs into a duffle bag that is about 5 feet tall and weighs 20-30 lbs. OK for a car, not so much for the trail.
That was the first setup I had (for indoor use). Other than not holding the advertised weight, it's decent if you don't want to build your own stand. I can't imagine using it for travel with lots of walking...
(my 'double size' trek light fits in it fine connecting directly to the top most rung)
It's slightly less on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Vivere-UHSDO9-...dp/B004YJCP7O/

Out of curiosity, I removed the ridge line from my treklight double and ran a really short line down the channel to connect a biner so it's pretty much right at the end of the hammock. If I hook into the end piece I have about 2-4 inches of clearance above the lower pipe. It works, but it's a tad less sag than I am used to in that hammock.
somniferous -- yeah, that's exactly how I hung it. Didn't have a ridgeline at all and just connected it using the provided/already attached cord and 'S' hook (S hook attached to the hook provided with the stand). Had I'd say 4-6" clearance from the pole and I actually preferred the hang to the hammock that came with it (but since I'm paranoid I didn't trust the S hook and stuck with the Brazilian). I have no idea if I had it hung as it should have, though it felt pretty secure, at least!
