    toggle turned, dropped to ground

This was at home and it had become a nightly routine.
Never thought about it until I hit the ground. Hung the foot-end, stretched out hammock and hung the head. Wish I had check the foot a second time before sitting down. Don’t think it will happen to me again.

    As always, Will

    toggle turned, dropped to ground

Happened more than once, just last night too. I learned to have my feet under me taking that first sit, saved my posterior last night! The webbing I use on my deck is seatbelt material ( it was free) and the toggles are a bit short until the slipknot takes its set.

Oh, I learned to find strong sticks for toggles by the same method, but that one went in the night whilst turning over. Ouch!

    toggle turned, dropped to ground

I haven't had the problem of the toggle rotating, but from the video I can see that as a problem. Even with the sling on the knot or above the knot. My only time hitting the ground came whem the stick I used for the toggle was more rotted than I realized. I now use a 100# carabiner as the toggle. Much stronger than a stick and Allows me to hang wet shoes as well.

Would it be advisable to make a (**** KNOT NAMES)... it's like half a prussik... The same knot you use on a whoopie to attatch it to the hammock on the toggle? Would that improve the durability? I'm imagining doing that on the head end of the hammock at the correct adjustment, then leaving the foot end as is... then at least your legs will most likely hit first?

Good idea. Make a Lark's Head(LH) by folding the loop back towards the body of the line, then thread the toggle and its loop through the opening of the LH knot. The hammock loop would then be cinched around the line that has the toggle in it. Would someone please comment on the loss of strength from the small diameter knot on the cinched line? Is that why this is not already being used this way?

I started using a cord lock on my whoopies that stop's this from happening. Just feed the whole adjustable loop through the lock. When you slip over the toggle you can choke up on the lock.
This makes it pretty impossible for the toggle to spin anymore

I've been using my trekking poles as toggles. They're always there, I don't have to carry extra stuff...

And once camp is set up and someone want to go on a day hike, ummm, dam n. No poles. Never thought of the toggles turning, I'll have to think of something new.
