    Why am I slipping?

I made some UCRs for the ends of my parachute hammock. The bury is 10" at each end. Is this enough? I have wound up on my butt twice now. I have been careful to milk it as tight as I can before I get in but I have both times slid gently to the ground. Sleeping on the ground is something I have sworn off.

Should I start again and make whoopies?

The short tail end needs to be taut line hitched or have a prussik attaching it to the other line to prevent slipping. In of the photos it looks like you have a clove hitch which isn't gonna do the job.

But the prussic or hitch doesn't take a load, does it? I put a safety pin thru one end because I didn't leave enough length for a prussic... thought the main point of tying up the tail was to prevent it form dropping down and opening up the end, as it's not under tension like a whoopie sling would be.

It isn't supposed to take a load. It's a safety feature only, like a slippery half hitch for a whoopie sling.

It looks like your using 2 different cords(maybe just color) for 1 side of your rig. What type and what size cords are you using? Which side is slipping? How much do you weigh?

UCR's should work without slipping using a 10" bury when milked properly for most but not all.

That's correct. I'm assuming that the end without the safety pin is the one that slipped, correct? If so it's because a clove hitch isn't good enough to keep the tail from slipping.

Ther could be a little more tension on the non loaded end, just enough to pull the adjustable bury a little more taut. Also, a longer bury may be needed. A couple of inches would make a difference.

It's all 7/64 Amsteel Blue, just different colors. Both sides have slipped on me.

Hmm, I don't think I left enough to increase the bury length... at least at the end with the two green ropes.

I guess I'll have to undo the whole thing and start over

That's why one never buys less than 100' of amsteel at a time. 200' is better.

    Try using prussiks.
