Descenders rings from REI release alot easier fyi. I tried the steel ringbuckle set up and had to fight with it to get it to release. The alum rings for w/e reason let go smoother.

JJ gives good instruction and it should take no more than an hour to get you hangin .

btw if you dont have a sewing machine you can usehttp://www.animatedknots.com/waterknot/index.php

In this set up what is the benifit of the bieners. Is there a reason you would not pull the strap through the loop.

The biners allow you to unclip from the tree quickly and easily.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

It's faster. You wrap the strap around the tree, then clip the 'biner on the standing part.

I guess the grams are killing my thought process. I have used my stock HH setup w/ tree huggers for years no problem. I started thinking I might go with some longer tree huggers now that I started going to more state parks which have older larger trees. Since I was getting new straps I could set up the rings for ease to level things out. I was thinking I could just set up one side. to save the weight and not use any bieners. If I order some rings I will probaably order atleast 6 for my other hammocks. So If I like it on both ends I will have'm.

ring buckles on one end and stock on the other has been done. It makes things a little more compkicated to center and adjust the hammock IMO but other than that it presents no insurrmountable problems.

I will prob hold off on the rings unless those straps fall in my lap. With my son really getting into camping (Tiger scout) I'm doubleing my gear right now. With the exspense of monthly camp-outs. You know it adds up. I can stop thinking about getting the SS and a free HH scout for my 9 yr. old Girl Scout. Maybee I can get a BB for myself and I will have the whole family of 4 hanging. This is crazy compared to the years of solo camping. Atleast one month this year I will be camping every single weekend i don't know when but it's gonna happen.

I looked on REIs site for these rings to no avail. Any suggestions?
