    Paper or plastic?

I have decided to get (slightly) away from using copious amounts of plastic baggies in the wild and switch to an earth- friendlier option. Enter the waxed paper bag. A little more money, and I had to order, but they make excellent fire starter! No trash to pack out! Anyone else do this?

Thanks for the idea. Didn't know there was such a thing. Where did you order from? I freezer bag cook so I think I will still need some plastic bags but for every thing else, these could work.

This might be an option. Downside? They only have a shelf life of two years.

I ordered mine from amazon. the downside is that the bottom is not completely sealed, so powdery items can fall through. I fixed this by folding up the bottom one or two fold and then putting a small piece of tape. I figure when I am done I will through the bag in the fire, saving some trash.

wouldn't it be great if all of the plastic bags were biodegradable. The only thing with this is you still would have to pack it out, maybe I will get these to pack my wax paper packets in. I still like to double bag all of my food

I was on their site first, but couldn't find a good picture or something that was specifically touted as "zip top" or the like. They did have the feel of being more reputable.

    Interesting topic...

On a side note.... I try to follow "reduce, reuse, recycle" as much as I can, being in The Netherlands this might be a bit different then other places (I know Scandinavia and Australia do a lot about this too).

Plastic garbage thingies I put in the recycle bin and it saves me HUGE amounts of space in the normal trash can. It gets recycled to fleece sweaters and other 'plastic' products (afaik)... So, personally I am not too worried about this one, but all pieces help so I'll keep an eye out on this...

reduce, reuse, recycle applies in the states too, as well as "Leave no trace" and "pack it in, pack it out". the plastic baggie stuff does not get reused or recycled but thrown in a landfill. And you still have to pack it out. I thought this was a nice way to not have to deal with that....

True mate... since I know jack about that stuff on your side of the pond I was meagerly hoping that it was recycled too as they do here.....

    Take care...
