Anyone have any experience with hammock such as this one?
It seems like it may be more comfortable since the ends can expand and essentially making the hammock longer. Is there any benefit to these over a typical DIY gathered end hammock?

Got one (a two person souvenir from a trip to the Amazon, not sure about size without strings and all)...
great.... back home... too heavy and bulky for camping. It being cotton it doesn't like wet weather without a tarp...getting heavier and heavier... but man...
Last night I just wanted to let my dinner settle for just a few minutes.... 45 minutes later I woke up....
Never used the head/foot end strings to separate the ends or so...
Hope this helped you out a bit...

Most people would recommend a nice big brazilian hammock for indoor hanging, like when replacing a bed.
I may be dumb, but at least I'm ugly!
I've done so much, with so little, for so long, now I can do anything with nothing.
It's not peer pressure, it's just your turn.
How do you wax a hammock?
In all seriousness, how does this differ from a mayan?
Is it just the material that is different, or is there a
totally different weave?
Thanks for the info. They do look pretty comfy!
I just put mounting hardware in my spare room. Hmmm... maybe there is still room for a new toy!!
I'm not sure at all, but i was under the impression the mayan versions were just a tightly woven mesh version.
A Brazilian hammock makes use of a solid sheet of fabric. Generally cotton and generally heavy-weight.
A Mayan hammock makes use of several hundred feet of cord, woven using a sprang weave.
A Nicaraguan hammock uses the same weave of the Mayan hammocks, but does so at a much higher density. The total cordage used for a Nic would be in excess of 3 times the amount used on a Mayan.
Crochet hammocks are...well, crocheted.
Mexican hammocks; hate this term and it gets thrown around a lot! In my mind, a Mexican hammock is what we would call a net hammock. It is woven just like a fishing net and provides no push-back against the sleeper. That push-back IMO is the reason for the comfort in the Mayans and Nics.
Trust nobody!
Great breakdown of the different types! Thanks
