(video) Part 2 - GSMNP - Big Creek / Mt. Sterling loop

This is part 2 of our loop hike in the Smokey's. See Part 1 here.

Days 2 & 3 had it all - waterfalls, rain, sunsets, warming fires, chaffing, views, Sierra Nevada IPA, the fire tower and some serious 4000' of downhill.

The end of the video includes some info on GSMNP resources I found helpful in planning the trip.

    Enjoy !

Smokey Mountains Rainforest sounds good to me. I want one of those towers in my backyard. I could pretty it up with some multi colored flashing lights. lol Extra great view from the top. You are lucky... I was just about to complain that you didn’t test how high it is, but then you gave it the spit test, nice work! lol Thanks for the 2 trip reports, TallPaul! Great place!

Scene at 10:59 very nice, love the fog in the trees.
Looks like every trail is getting overgrown with all the rain, not just Middle Prong.
Saturday looked like a very long/hard day.
Notice as soon as you get above the trees on the tower climb the wind picks up...that's when my nerves peeked up a bit.
OMG OMG OMG views from the top! Can you imagine a timelapse there??
Well I dont have to tell you how special Sterling is, you've lived it.
Resources at the end a great idea. Thanks for sharing another great vid TallPall....
p.s. often we abbreviate trail names here, but TP just doesnt sound right
    Twice up the tower-brave man.

great video from the tower and of your hike up the trail rivers. I don't remember the trails being so overgrown but like MM said with all this rain it is going to get like that. At least you got to hike down the trail instead of hiking up it esp with that elevation gain

Awesome! Well workth the wait for Part 2..now if I can just conjure something up to coerce the wife into that upward hike...like maybe a "white lie" on how easy it is. For us flatlanders, its definitely a little butt kicker, but loved the video and the great descriptions you gave. I really like the old fire towers as we still have a couple here in southern Indiana to climb. Don't you love the way they vibrate when your close to the top>? Keep the videos coming and enjoy your hikes. I enjoyed this one myself. Thanks

Thx Brucie - you cracked me up with your spit test. I couldn't resist.

Sterling is special. Definitely in my plans for another visit someday.
And a time lapse would be awesome, if the wind co-operated.
Just missed the meteor showers by one night... I did see one from up there though.

Thx Euchre - I think only crazy people go up Baxter trail 4k is a lot.

    Hey TP,

Great looking trip, trying to figure it out.
    Big Creek Trail up to
Gunter Fork Trail to MT Sterling Ridge Trail back to
Big Creek, is that correct? What was your total mileage?

    Thanks
