I have a pair of the purdy orange camp nano's. unfortunately they don't get used much since I use Whoopies and Dutchware. They are good strong biners though.
Clips are used to tie the end of a strap to a strap body when the strap is put around the tree as a hugger. Lighter than a biner and faster than threading through the loop. The rest of the strap is then run through buckles at the hammock or a marlinspike hitch is used to hang one end of the whoopee on. The big advantages are weight and speed on a strap and buckle suspension. Big plus is huggers can be always tied to the hammock. That avoids leaving them in a tree. ;-)
Dutch biners are used to clip the other end of a whoopee to the hammock or to interrupt the Structural Ridge Line for easier lounging.
There are many ways to accomplish the tasks involved. Dutch tends to offer a light weight solution to elegantly address various problems. Hence "Bling" tag. OTOH they work well when properly employed. It's good stuff we don't need but really want. ;-)

I had the EXACT same experience with the biners that were shipped with one of my ENO double nests. I have climbing biners, but the company assured me that I would be fine with the ones that came with my hammock. I only noticed after I was done hanging, (did not fall) and immediately swapped out the stock biners for my climbing ones. Glad no one was hurt!
Now, that was a great explaination.
Really, all we need are 2 fabrics and rope for a hammock and tarp shelter. But why JUST survive when we can thrive. Everything above the minimum is "not needed" but definitely wanted to make easyer, lighter, more convenient, more compact...better.
Everyone will have their favorites and best practices for their hang. Find your own and enjoy the piney woods. Dutch Bling is the best.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
Most of my hammocks are set up with Dutch Clips.

I have SRSLY been considering some Dutch Biners as well.
