How much do mfg sales on hammocks matter to switching?

    Or to trying something different?

I notice and took advantage of the opportunity that Tree to Trail Gear offered by sending a hammock around, on trial. It was one version of the the well-sewn and very comfortable switchback.

The subject refers to the sale coming to end soon of all Clark hammock packages (ie with tarps)www.Junglehammock.com .

Would those who have looked or ordered for comparison comment or share their experiences.

The sales would only help entice me for a hammock
that I was already interested in, UNLESS it was so huge
of a discount that I couldn't pass it up.

I have been looking at the Clark hammocks, as the Vertex
is a hammock unlike another that I have seen. I know that
I would score HUGE brownie points from the girlfriend to be
able to hang side by side with her, but the price tag would
put me in the dog house for a few months.

Granted, the 429 price tag is alot less than the 599 original.....
but that's still a hole bunch of benjies, and I've got a few
    hammocks already.

IMHO, you should switch because of features or comfort, not
because of price. Just because you save 100 dollars, if it is not
what you want, you might have ended up wasting more money
    down the road. Research prevails.

I always try to order a product when there are good sales. I have been wanting a Clark for a long time and since I did not need another tarp and the sale is so good I pulled the trigger on a weatherized TX250. I have never even seen a Clark hammock in person but I figured that if I don't like it I can sale for pretty much what I paid for it. I am a gear junkie and do most of my shopping on line so I end up buying more than I need just to compare and just sell what I don't like or need.

    The new usual suspects

<smile> . Two interested parties who read the initial post, even though the Title didn't mention the temptations they most recently gave in to.

I did mean, when starting this thread, to also get comments on other hammocks that others would in the general community would see. Really.

I guess it is not a matter of switching my hammock but more of a matter of getting to try something I have not tried before. I do tons of research but I try to wait on the sales.
So yes the sales do influence my decisions on my gear but not for switching.
I use my gear as my bank.

"Switching" infers something entirely different than "buying a new hammock because 1.. uh... 2.. err... 3 are not enough".

Sales don't usually affect my purchasing decision. If I happen to have enough money, fine. If not then I'll wait instead of going into debt over it. I haven't bought one piece of hammock gear purely because it was deeply discounted yet. But that Clark deal has tested my financial restraint several times over.

I tend to struggle more with juggling comfort, weight and bulk in hammocks. But without buying it, for me, there is no trying it. It's impossible to borrow all the gear for weeks to really learn it. So comfort needs to be sampled in dollars unfortunately. Comfort vs reasonable weight will make me switch. Comfort first more and more as I get older.

I tend to place far more value in trusted reviews, versus discounts, written by folks in-the-know that are around my body size and share my preferred sleep methods. But don't get me wrong either saving dough is so important too.

I got to add that you make some quite convincing posts in the "for" column regarding the Clarks, Demonstix. I believe I've read and noted them all. You truly are a Demon in disquise (in a good way that is). Clark should consider you for a Friend of the Year Award. Your confidence in that hammock line is exemplary. It transcends the web.

My vice is to over analyze things and it does take some fun out of it. It's only camping after all. It all used to be so simple, throw down a bag and go to sleep until it started raining all over us. Whoopie Pies instead of Whoopie Slings and the like.
