Always worried about pieces hitting the camera, but next time I'll set the camera right in front of the item being tested with a piece of plexiglass.
Gets pretty scary looking close at the stuff when it's up around 500 or more pounds.
And I won't get near it when it's up in the thousands.

question for you, watching this video and other of yours destructive testing i have noticed that while you are operating the pump the readings shoot up but if you pause the reading starts to decline. why is that? stretch in the webbing / cord? pump wont hold the pressure? or is it because the hardware is deforming?
just curious?

Its from the webbing or cordage relaxing in most cases. But in this video it was both that and the fact that I got lazy and just wrapped the webbing around the post several times on the webbing end and it was slipping.

I usually use a 10,000lb air hydraulic pump which runs nice and smooth but it's gave up the ghost a few weeks ago. It cost almost as much as a new one to overhaul it so I'm saving up for another one.

The hand pump and cylinder hold just fine. They are both 10,000 units. But the cylinder needs overhaul too. It sticks on the retract. Always something. But the good news is that the electronics are calibrated every year by the manufacturer. I just need some more time and money, thats all. More time and money.

I thought for sure that v-ring wasn't going to make 300 lbs. I couldn't even feel the weight of it in my hand. Go figure! Going to try one on some amsteel next.
I hear so much about that **** am-steel.

Thanks for the test. One of my take aways was the cut cordage. Amsteel may be stronger but it will eventually get chewed through too. I would check my loops through the hammock to the buckle before every trip or so. On a long trip every several days of hanging. Loosening it up to loop might also re position it. The thinner the line the more I would watch it as there is less margin for nicks.
