    Ring set-up

Howdy all, Im new to the hammock world and figured Id do a search for a hammock forum and voila!!! Here I am.

Anyway...I discovered ENO products recently and it looked neat. It also seems like a great alternative to tent camping so I figured we would give it a try. We havent yet had a chance to really try out our hammocks, my boy and I, but I did set one up after work one evening to get an idea of good strap height, distance etc. I discovered I do not like the Slap Straps for the obvious reason you all get and thats the stretch factor.

So I picked up some poly webbing and some rappell rings from REI and went to work.

I got loops sewn into the webbing, but no pics. Im sure everyone knows what they look like.

Anyway...nice to see a community dedicated to hammock life.

I've never seen the Omega rap rings before, most use the SMC's. The Omega's look like they have a smaller circumference and may bite the webbing a bit better, IE less slippage.

The inside diameter is just a wee bit under 1.5". I also got 2 of the SMC rings as the REI I hit only had 6 of the Omegas. Ill probably replace the SMC with Omegas just for the sake of consistency....

They do grip quite nice...I inserted the webbing into one end of my hammock and stood on the web as I pulled on the rope and it wouldnt budge.

Not to mention they just look cool.

Well, yes and no in my experience. I have a couple of hammocks set-up with the Omega rings. Back-up knot is still a very good idea. But, they grip really well when trying to adjust, too well for my taste. What they are very good for are the folks that use rope/cord in lieu of webbing. These rings are much better suited for cord IMO.

Well, everything went well. I took pictures, but I guess the camera didnt feel like saving them. No slippage and it was very easy to get the webbing out for take down.

On a side note...for those times when youve only got 1 anchor point...
